More pregnancy thoughts...

- When I was 26 weeks, I hit the 200 lbs. It was inevitable but still a big wow factor when I got on the scale, not digital, and had to move the big bottom bar from 150 to 200. All in the name of the babies...

- Beyonce delivered at my hospital. I was there the day she was admitted at my specialist appointment. She checked in that Fri night. Barely missed her crew. However, appartley security was so tough a daddy of NICU twins wasn't able to see his babies. Nightmare. A week later Andrew and I took the hospital maternity tour. I had to ask to see the "newly upgraded suites." Even then I just got to see the doors.

-Swimming or rather using a kick board has been my favorite thing in pregnancy. It's rejuvenating, refreshing, and even restful in its own way. Along with the weigh of my belly, my mind floats free too...

-Although each appointment accomplished feels like I've received a prize, I grow a little weary sometimes of all the attention this pregnancy demands. As a result, I feel ungrateful. Then when I think of the 2 boys kicking and cuddling inside, I have no problem adjusting my attitude.

- As of a week ago, I had 10 lbs. total of baby in me. I look forward to this week's measurement...

- I'm trying so hard to keep my labor at bay, although my time is drawing near. yikes!

- I have bought into the concept of BabyPlus. I've enjoyed the in-utero bonding we're experiencing.

- I'm so overwlemed with the double gifting. I know I'm having twins, but they can share. Thank you!

- I love to picture our two boys curled inside. It's a glorious sight..

- The 1st most common question asked after finding out I'm having twins is if they are natural or not. 2nd most common question is what are their names. And the 3rd most common question I hear is if I will have a cesarean or vaginal delivery. Many times I have gotten all 3 questions, in this order, in one conversation. Hilarious.

- Since I've answered the 1st. on here before. The 2nd is TBD, for us too. And for the 3rd. Ideally I'd like to have a v-delivery. But some of the best advise given is to not be set in my ways of 'plans' so to speak. I'll take one for the team if it means my babies having a safe and easy welcome to this world. I'm more passionate about that aspect than how they get here on my behalf. And I trust my Dr. 100% who I really feel like has both mine and my babies best interest. 1,000 appointments later I'm really convinced of that.

- I'm terrified of needles. Like deathly I have an out of body experience when I have to do anything involving them afraid. But somehow I've arrived at the point that physically giving birth to two babies no longer seems fearsome. It seems downright do-able! Andrew gives a calming foundation that's for sure.

- I've done a lot of thinking, reading, and asking around about vaccinations. I will be spacing those bad boys out and will be choosing a pediatrician that allows me to do so.

Twin A & Twin B....

Although we have a handful of names we like, we haven't actually finalized what we are going to name our boys. I think most think we are holding out and keeping it some grand secret. I wish that was the case. Instead, I follow my husband's lead on this one; we need to see them and then decide. What we are private about is the possibilities. Everyone seems to have an opinion on your names otherwise. I'd be pleased with an 'ah-ha' moment to solidify everything. No doubt they are two separate babies. At my now 3 Dr. appointments a week, they differentiate them by calling them "Twin A & Twin B." That's how it's been the entire pregnancy. So that has stuck for us as well.

We too call them A & B.

A is on the right, first one to be delivered. B is far more active, our little thumb sucker.

I saw these onsie's online and was so in-love. A few days later, my sister-in-law had them sent in the mail not even knowing that I had my eye on them. Sweet surprise.

Conran World Map...

I fell in love with this world map in London last summer. I would walk by the store weekly if not daily and my desire for it never faded. When we got the deposit back on our probably <300sq. ft apartment, I went to this store with plans to hang it up in a baby room one day. We could of just exchanged the deposit from the pound back to the dollar, but the dollar weakened so much over our summer's stay. We would of lost a good bit--or that is at least how I saw it in my mind. So there was born the map...

So this is the only thing complete in our apartment right now. Cribs don't come in for another month. (Yes, the babies will be here before then). I haven't decided on a stroller. blah blah.

But I adore my swizzle-glider. I have such happy thoughts when I sit there either just thinking or reading in prep for our time...

Not sure that the map needs much explanation. Great teaching tool for the kids I hope. About 180+ fabric velcro motifs explaining the world. Andrew and I were seriously stumped trying to assemble it all. It shamefully took us over an hour probably combined. We had to look up most every mountain and city given. The thought of a child coming through and replacing the pieces is frightening. I guess we have some good time before that happens though.

And FYI: This is the giant map (almost 8 ft x6 feet). There is a smaller version as well as a hanging globe that is cool if you're at all interested in something a big smaller but same idea. The hanging globe in the store was a bit haggard and didn't seem like it withheld gravity's pull too well.

I thought we'd be here much longer. Our 450 sq ft apartment (if that) was perfect for the 2 of us. We found out we were expecting a week after we signed our lease and twins a weeks after we moved in. We thought we'd make it work with a singleton. But not possible with twins. So here's the last of my apartment pics. I'll cherish great memories here. Moment in time--quick 7 months to never forget.

Moving day...

Will miss the building peeps more than anything. So friendly. I would bring my lunch down to chat it up with them sometimes. They were always quick to ask about the babies and give me update on theirs.

Incredible Magic Show!

We had heard from many people that this was a great performance. It exceeded all expectations. I couldn't follow the first trick. His show is limited to about 40 people in the Waldorf Tower so you can really focus in and try not to let it slip you. But it does. Great performer and entertainer. I highly recommend...

NYC Broadway Week...

It's restaurant week and broadway week all in one. So pretty much it's a dead time of year for tourist bringing deals for those that live close by. Yeah! Andrew and I saw the Blue Many Group (off-broadway) last time they were running this. It was shortly after we had moved here. I was so sick I could hardly sit in my chair. Not I'm 33 weeks going strong, but taking it plenty easy.

My brother and his wife are living on the Southern coast where Alabama and Florida connect. With it being a temporary move, and since they are freshly newly-weds, they are taking advantage of all the adorable small towns they can visit on the weekend. Point Clear, Alabama was the most recent destination. I had to share as I love vicariously experiencing these places through them.

Juicy Bottle Charms...

I had a good idea at 12 weeks 6 days that I was having twin boys. It was too early to make a peep though because... things were still developing // we hadn't told anyone we were pregnant except my parents // the nurse couldn't say it was 100%.

But since I was at the specialist with a high powered machine, I was confident two boys were it.

Following that appointment I then proceeded to do my 30 block walk from my Dr. to my apartment. But not just any 30 blocks--the 30 blocks down 5th Avenue or Madison...take you pick.

I stopped in the Juicy Couture flagship store that made Nordstrom's charm collection look like peanuts. I found a treasure when I saw these and knew I had to wear them my entire pregnancy (didn't start wearing them until announced twins/gender of course). I'm not a charm collector where I wear a variety of charms at once, but I wear these on the end of a simple but long chain necklace.

Baby Shower...

These three girls were especially generous in throwing me a lovely shower this last weekend. I really appreciate them doing so. It's so special to get together and celebrate these little boys. I just returned from yet another appointment. Dr. visits just get sweeter and sweeter as our time approaches. Thank you girls for sharing this joy with me and extending yourselves so we could all celebrate.

PBR...

Two years ago we took a road trip with the Penas to the PBR in Vegas. One thing hasn't changed, I love PBR's! When Andrew inquired about Christmas giving, I said I was more interested in experiences prior to these babies debut than any tangible thing. So here's to the PBR at Madison Square Garden.

Andrew's parents actually made the event possible through their family friend that works for the PBR association. So fun having the Egan's there too. Takes another southern girl to appreciate this type of event. And Emma Perry was a total rockstar--not a peep despite the loudness.

Had a bull malfuction there on the bottom right. I think this rider got a re-ride as a result.

I love observing what goes on behind the chutes. It's amazing to watch the bull temperament prior and what the bull riders routine includes.

Half time entertainment equivalent was jousting. Pretty intense...

It's a weekend event. On Saturday Kimber and the Hadleys were there as well.

I think the bull industry is fascinating. I'm not obnoxious about it, but I deep down root for the bull. I just want a good ride. That come with a good bull. I love the hype on various bulls that have only been ridden for a full 8 seconds once before or even just a couple times. For example, Bushwacker. He is out for a couple months due to a minor surgery on his back legs though so maybe next year we'll see him.

I went to the Opera with my family. When I went to the bathroom at intermission the sweet lady handing out towlets for a tip said to me, "I've never seen a caucasian women carry a baby that big before. You got one or two in there?" That really happened. My mom and 2 sisters were there to witness it too. Mom assured me it was the dress I was wearing. I guess it's pleats weren't doing me any favors. Except I was proud to get some twin recognition from a random.

New Year's...

(I failed miserably this holiday at carrying my camera around. The iphone pics work but as always I wish I had my camera with me. I'm just giving it a rest before the babies come. Then to good use...)

We started off the day with inexpensive reflexology in Chinatown.

Then ventured to Soho where we had quite the time in C Wonder. We all got the same horse necklace, thus making it a sister's necklace.

Cyrus stole the show as he laid on the plush green ottoman.

We returned to the guys swimming and watching football. We all then enjoyed the goodness and convenience of seamless.

Warhorse ended around 10:40 just in time to walk back to our apartment and watch the fireworks from our roofdeck. Then we ventured to Times Square, after the ball dropped, as the madness of people quickly cleared out. I can see why if you had been standing in the same spot jam packed all day. Did I mention it was the warmest New Year's here in 35 years? I think someone said it was 45 degrees. I was over bundled.

Family visits NYC...

When my Dr. gave my the no-go for December travel, we pretty much flip flopped the holiday scheduling this year. Although we would then be doing Christmas with Andrew's fam, my family came out shortly after. I think this was mine and Andrew's first holiday where we spent it with both families.

So my fam came to NYC and stayed literally right across the street from us. With the help of my nephews, who in no way slowed us down, we dominated this city.

1. Oh the snowflake on 57th. 2. Surprise drive up next to the cab we were in 3. Christmas gift exchange. My fam is small enough we don't draw names, but we buy inexpensive gifts too 4. Carriage ride in the park. I think we paid the same amount for a 15 minute ride that we paid for a 45 minute ride a few months ago. Joy of the tourist. I'm guessing there is not a busier week of the yr in NYC than the week after Christmas. I'll take family visitors anytime though...

I thought the boys would love the subway experience, but they much preferred the taxi. I'm guessing because it's probably the first time in their life they haven't had to use a carseat, still a foreign concept to me.

Had a great time walking through West Village with the fam. No tourist there. Had a yummy brunch and enjoyed a walk through Perry St.

NYC Post Office...

I remember when I toured NYC with my mom in high school we made a special trip to see the post office and its beautiful pillars and steps. Crazy enough, now I live only 2 avenues away from it. My prior stamp buys don't seem to keep up with an ever growing stamp increase. So I needed to go buy some $0.03 stamps. So off I went. Always an experience. Not sure it is one I can get used to. The building faces Madison Square Garden/Penn Station with the Empire State Building just a few more avenues in the distance. Neat view looking back once you get to the top of the steps-

Built in 1912, it takes up a full city block--huge!

Inscribed above the detailed pillars along the top, "Nor snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

This post office is not without typical waiting lines though, even after the holidays. However, I enjoyed hearing that they were on the only PO open 24/7 until 2009 when they cut back hrs to 10pm. That's still pretty amazing to me. Experiences in the past, the PO is always closed it seems.

I'm not so much a tilter but I was trying to get the steps and the pillars. It worked from this angle.

The interior is gorgeous. The self-service kiosks stick out like a sore thumb here.

Christmas 2011...

We spent Christmas Day and the few days prior in CT with Andrew's family. It's always a relaxing treat to lounge there and be with family. Although we technically live just 1.5 hr away, we're so busy in our various activities and work. So actually staying with them was so nice. Andrew was able to commute and work through the holiday too.

Andrew's mom doesn't cut the holiday decorating short that's for sure. Her Christmas decor isn't something you could begin to accumulate in a season. From nativities collected during various travel to a different thematic Santa representing each year that she places in her long kitchen window seal, she even exchanges some wall art for some beautiful Christmas winter art. She is so thoughtful in helping us cultivate our immediate family holiday decorations too. Every year she adds to our Christmas china and gives us a symbolic ornament representing the year. The Checketts Christmas spirit is one of the many reasons why spending the holiday with your in-laws in oh so painless.

(below) Miracle Charlie who was born this time last year added so much to the Christmas holiday. He is so happy most all the time. And his sisters, Santa's elves, delivered cooking to various families around town on Christmas Eve. I love that tradition.

Shortest day of the year...

No place I'd rather be on the shortest day of the year (yesterday) where it gets dark at around 4:30...

I always resented the day light saving time and winter nights where it gets dark so early. I hated getting to work when it was dark and leaving when it was dark too. Except there is something about this city where nighttime is really special and I welcome nighttime.

Woodstock, New York...

We recently enjoyed a weekend of fun with 3 other couples. Liz Jensen found the place online and it was a hit. We were in Baresville to be exact. No cell phone service and no TV. Although with Wi-fi and the quaint town of Woodstock close by, we were hardly deprived.

Guys streamed the BYU/Baylor basketball game.

Lou-Lou was a weekend highlight for sure. Such a trooper and joy to be around. We trained from NYC to Tarrytown where Liz picked us up before another couple hours drive. She was as happy as can be all along. Yet so full of energy and life.

Couldn't pass up the homemade ice-cream although freezing outside and located in a Mexican food joint.

3 of the 4 girls pregnant so we left the hot-tubing for the guys.

Thanksgiving Roundup...

I just recently posted about the Thanksgiving holiday and all 18 family house guests we had staying with us. It was a blast. My cousin Savannah made a 8 minute video of all the fun that she posted on facebook for us all to enjoy. I wanted to repost in case someone cares to see how amazing family is/are.

Also, we refer to family fun with the Clawsons as a rage train. It doesn't slow down--sun up to sun down. If you get tired and have to get off the rage train you might get hurt.

Blue Christmas...

Anyone that knows my mom and how spontaneous and unique she is will not be surprised by her blue Christmas tree this year. With twin boys on way and with the recent birth of my sister's 3rd son, my parents only know grandsons. So Christmas 2011 will be marked with a blue Christmas tree. There is hope for a granddaughter though someday. Mom put pink bulbs all over the tree. I love the mother and child one.

Favorite Things...

Last week, Whitney and I hosted a favorite things night for a big group of girls. It was so great being together, eating treats, and learning of other's favorite things. My good friend Courtney has had huge success hosting this type of party before. In fact, some of my favorite products are the very things that I learned about on nights like this.

Here was the invite we emailed out. I cut the contact info/address off the first page just in case there is a creeper out there somewhere. I will say, I lifted the wording off Courtney's invite too. Credit given where credit deserved.

Here is the all of us. Everyone had something great to take home when the night was over. I was worried we'd have to many exchanges and gifts that would drag the night on. But by the time we were done, I didn't want it to end. It went by too fast.

We had the exchange in the event/lounge area of my building. I really didn't do much for the night though. Whitney did most all the baking and was in charge of the treats which is no painless responsibility traveling on the subway with trays and so forth.

SantaCon...

This last Saturday was a great day to be out and about. I had no prior understanding of what SantaCon involved. I've read estimates up to 10,000 Santas. But basically a massive amount of people all over Manhattan dressed as Santa. It's basically a pub crawl that lasts all day. There were live tweets telling the group what area to transport to next. A couple of the locations were located right around me. So I headed out to see what it was about. I saw Santa in every form or fashion. As the day went on, the costumes got more and more dilapidated. The Ho Ho Ho chants were hilarious. The little kids in the city must be confused and even terrified.

Christmas Market @ Union Square...

Christmas in NY is really an amazing thing. Every day is full of Christmas surprises. Although I've been to NY before in Christmas, this is my first time really experiencing it each day. This is one of the few Christmas markets setups here in the city.

A market is never complete without a homemade soap stand.

Loved the wood carving booths. There was one that had all wooden ornaments.

But the crepe stand is my favorite. I have made three separate trips to the market just to get a fresh crepe--nutella and peanut butter.

The best thing is that I walk half a block to jump on the direct subway line from my place with two stops and then I walk out right in the middle of the market.

Elephant & Castle...

NYC is known for their many amazing places to brunch. I was so food adverse the first 18-20 weeks we were here, I could hardly enjoy a meal outing. And now we feel like we have a narrow window of time to do see and experience. This place is known for their eggs n' apples benedict on french toast. I'm a tough critic on eggs benedict, and I thoroughly enjoyed. Most places like here, brunch is only served on the weekends. Plan for a wait at this place--no reservations.

It has been too long since we'd doubled with Sarah Jane and Tyler.

Located on Greenwich Ave in the West Village... Such a charming place to walk around and see the multi-leveled townhouses. This is on Perry St which is right off Greenwich Ave. It's so quite. I was hoping Hugh Jackman would step out of his place. I hear he lives on this treasure. I can see why.

Andrew works enough, it's nice to get out and explore the city when we can.

Ugly Sweater Party...

We were pleased to attend an ugly sweater Christmas party the other night. I wasn't feeling up to picking through consigners this year. So with the hostess's recommendation, I went to the plus-size section of Kmart and found just what I was looking for. Andrew wasn't sure about the low cut v-neck. But when I showed him the Jet's santa hat, he forgot all about the sweater. His outfit was then complete.

Hugh Jackman....

This guy does not disappoint. He is so incredibly talented and has so much energy for the couple hour, one many show in the Broadhurst theater. I'm amazed with how he connects with the audience and not only the fans love him, but he loves them too. Through the night, Hugh goes through his dreams, his career, and his family. He performs various songs from different movies he acted in with sometimes the screening in the background. He also sang what had inspired him at various times of his life. What I love most... he doesn't hide the love he has for his wife either.

My favorite songs of the night were "Oh What a Beautiful Morning," from Oklahoma and "L-O-V-E (L is for the way...)." But the aborigines rendition he did from the movie Australia was particularly touching. Andrew and I were quick to see that movie as it came out shortly after our honeymoon. It was neat to see his aborigines friends from the Outback perform on the didgeridoo too.

My auntie was in town with her husband for some work and they brought us. So nice of them.

I don't think I've ever heard my mom say to take shoes off when you come in the house. But someone started a trend that everyone followed. I kind of liked it.

Uncle Craig came up with an intense scavenger hunt around the neighborhood.

The Olympic games involved hitting a gold ball over the river.

This Louisiana-Thanksgiving holiday was fun filled with family. We had 18 out of town guests (cousins, aunts, uncles) staying at our house that came in from Michigan, Hawaii, Illinois, Utah, and Florida.

We sat down for our traditional nightly family time and in walked some of our closest family friends with balloons and a cake. In addition to family, it was nice having close family friends together to celebrate the twins. Twins!!!!

My mom advised I drop off the boys to come stay at her house for 3 weeks in the summer once potty trained. & in addition I don't give her a bunch of rules for her to go by. Done and done!

Because we had so many house guests, Andrew and I stayed at my Mommee's once everyone arrived. It was great having breakfast together every morning.

These dear ladies were so kind in treating my mom, sister, grandmother, and I to a lovely lunch. I hadn't even been home a full day when we met to celebrate the boys on way. Miss Donna, Miss Lynn, and Miss Dee have a way of outdoing themselves in the most thoughtful way. I still remember clearly the party Donna and Lynn threw for me when I signed to play at BYU. I walked in the door then to a life size standup of me playing basketball. This time there was the most amazing cake of the twins popping out of a present it looked like.

I love and appreciate Miss Donna so much. I love that we keep in touch despite the distance.

I’m 23 weeks now and I haven’t taken time to relay the first pregnancy thought or detail. I’m full of them. I don’t even know where to begin.

I absolutely love being pregnant. No one could have ever prepared me for how sweet it would be.
I told myself prior that I wouldn’t complain when I was pregnant. That ‘s one thing I really cringe when hearing from others. I’m sure I’ve had my moments, but I really hope I’ve held true to that early commitment. Having said that…
The reality of my first 18 weeks is that I was extremely sick. But it was nothing I ever wished away. Strangely enough, I enjoyed it. Although easier to say hindsight. It made me feel really pregnant and reminded me constantly that this was really happening. I had some hard non-functional days though.
Finding out I was having twins deserves its own blog post.
When people (friends and strangers alike) find out I’m having twins, the first question following without fail is, “Do you have twins in your family?” This is another way of asking are they fertility or not? Genetic or that crazy 1% split? Fraternal or identical? So let me tell you…
My babies are sharing a placenta yet they are each in their own sack. This means they are 90%+ identical twins. My OB and specialist actually disagree about which one they are. Initially we were told it was a fused placenta, but as the placenta gets bigger it is clearer. No, I do not have twins in my family, nor does Andrew. And no, I was not on fertility. Gasp. But I did not get pregnant with twins my first time trying, nor second, nor third…
In fact, for the bold peeps that straight up ask me if my twins are fertility twins, I can in no way take all the credit as if it was all us. Although naturally conceived (is that okay to say), there was some serious intervention on the Lord’s part. He is so aware. So kind. That is for sure.
I’ve really been thinking about twins and wanted twins for some time. That’s why I can’t believe I’m baring two little ones. I wonder though… Did the Lord plant the desire in me knowing that I would have twins? Or did He grant me the very thing I desired?
Identical twins can happen to anyone. They aren’t genetic, just very rare for the egg to split.
I know and embrace that there will be a huge learning curve as far as nurturing and parenting goes; yet, it doesn’t intimidate me.
I haven’t read the first book. I have a lot of reading up to do.
We found out we were expecting a week after we signed our lease for our NYC apartment. And then we found out we were having twins a week after we moved into our studio.
I can’t believe how fast my pregnancy is going by. This has been the fastest 23 weeks of my life.
Sometimes when I lay in bed resting and thinking, I can hear the sweetest little voices in my head say “Are we there yet?” I like to think they are as excited as we are, and that they too have waited their turn. I’m so excited to meet my boys; however, the longer I carry the better. Pre-term labor is common with twins.
One thing NYC is not deprived of is twins. Granted I was out and about all day Friday, but I probably saw 5 different sets that day.
All twins are considered high risk. Then there is a higher risk group. And a highest risk group. I’m in the middle with the higher risk group cause my babies are sharing a placenta. I see my OB every other week and my specialist in the in-between weeks. So I go to the Dr. every week… at least.
So I have an ultrasound every week. I’m learning minor differences between the two and bonding with my babies. Yesterday, I had an in depth ultrasound where I got to watch each twin for 40 minutes. Twin A was sucking his thumb!
Both are over a pound.

This was the first pic given at 8 weeks when we found out we were having twins. I was at the appointment solo. I took a cab straight to Drew's office and had him meet me outside. I just showed him the pic and he was said, "Hold up, there's two?!?" We hugged/cried there on the street of NY... Columbus Ave to be exact.

Sometimes I go in one will be breeched, but most of the time they are not which shows them cuddled like they are hugging. When they are breeched, it is one bum to the other's head. Surely they don't enjoy that. Best buds!

9.11 memorial on 11.11.11, Veteran's Day

I've booked tickets for the memorial a couple times but it's required to book them so far in advance that it's never actually worked out in our schedule to go for when we're booked. So I appreciate Steve and Dayna getting the extra ticket for myself. It was a treat to go with them.

I was initially bummed by the rain but not only did it clear out the crowds to where we had no line, but also it set the mood in a somber respectful way that was perfectly appropriate. This is no doubt now a tourist attraction. But most importantly, it's a burial place for thousands of people. That is what is so hard for me to believe. Since most remains weren't recovered, this is their burial place.

In the pic below, if you look close enough you will see the name of one of the victims. I think Renee May is such a beautiful name. It wasn't the only 'and her unborn child' that I saw. So sad.

Family members and loved ones will place a rose at their loved ones name. When I watched the memorial unveiled at the anniversary, most every name had flowers placed.

Doughnut Plant...

One of the great things about friends coming to NYC to tour is that they know more hotspots than I do. I had never heard of this place shamefully. But since I was introduced to it a couple weeks ago, it's come up in conversation with various people probably 4 times.

Thanks Dayna and Steve for the recommendation. It's always good to enjoy time with friends who we knew prior to NYC.

I thought the doughnut bench was pretty neat.

The creme brulee doughnut is gourmet with a crunchy surface and a sweet thick custard in the center. Fully loaded I'm sure.

Halloween 2011...

It was probably 30 minutes before Andrew got home from work on Halloween night that I went to the costume shop a couple blocks away. I came home with a few options and this is what we ended up with. Completely random. Andrew was going to be Fred and I be Pebbles or Bam Bam with the baby suit that Crystal sewed. It was perfect. But it was freezing outside and my belly is bulging and I could wear layers under the Fred getup so this fit me perfectly. Most everyone knows how much Andrew loves to juggle. He will grab anything and show kids his talent. When I showed Drew the clown outfit he even said, "If I only had my juggling sticks."

I went to Utah for a long weekend a couple weeks ago. With hardly a weeks notice, Courtney put together the most generous shower with the help of a few generous friends. This really is the most lovely shower I've ever been too, and it was for me. I was really overwhelmed. I in no way expected the following.

The 3 of us at 20 weeks.

It was a very intimate group with about 10 of us. It was special to have three of my sister-in-laws there too. Katie surprised me by flying out from Connecticut. How nice?!?! She surprised me at the airport and we then flew out together. Sadly she is the only one I don't have a pic of.

The night was hosted at the Magalby's home in Alpine. Thank you Dayna and Lauren for making this possible. I have been to some great thematic parties, receptions, and showers there in their home. What a treat for them to so willingly offer to host a shower on my behalf.

The table was so beautifully set as you can see. Lauren has the art with perfect class to do so. From the flowers to the silver rattlers and blue china, amazing. This is Miss Monnett's china that she bought in hs, or maybe it was college, from a department store that she got credit at for doing some modeling. I adore beautiful china.

The attention to detail at this shower is most spectacular. Courtney made the name cards and the most beautiful menus. Heather made a delicious pear salad and Courtney made a yummy homemade pumpkin soup. Dayna's gingerbread cake will not be forgotten.

Courtney has a friend from DC who made these beautiful cookies. Some had onsies and others had a bottle or carriage. Loved them. The tag said "Thank you for strolling on by."

During the first course, everyone went around and said the nicest things.

Katie and my mother-in-law got me the cutest Bla-Bla mobiles that I have been eyeing for a long time.

& the blankies Heather got me are so soft. I'm sleeping with them for the meantime.

Katie traveled with her soon to be 1 year old Charlie. He's lightens up all of those around him.

Courtney really outdid herself in every way. But her gifting was especially thought-out and detailed. She typed out a cute note gifting bedtime and all its preparations. From the most practical bath carriers, to animals towels, special scented lotions, binkis, swaddlers, and goodnight stories... I'm looking forward to this process.

Most every photo I took last weekend was on my phone so here's a diptic collage. Andrew and I enjoyed visiting 'our happy place.' UT will always be special to us both as we each have family memories there, and it's where we met and married.

I have no pics of my sister-in-laws (3) though on my phone. What the heck?

I can't thank Courtney enough for strapping her 1 year old in a car seat and finding a way to accommodate all naps on the go while sleeping in various places with her pack-n-play in order to drive me around and take me to different places. In addition, she hosted the most lovely shower and worked around the clock the week prior to prepare. Thank you so so much!

Twin Checketts Skit...

Some dear friends threw me a shower last week in Alpine. I wasn't sure if I'd get the green light to travel so, this all came together in one week's time. You would of thought this included many weeks of planning. Here's the skit. More pics of shower to come later.

Courtney and Dayna are the two "Checketts Twins." Crystal did the interviewing and sewed Courtney's southern baby attire--a romper with puffy sleeves and a lacy bib. & Dayna is totally thugged out like a New Yorker but with a diaper.

I've watched this many times over already. Andrew had a good laugh over it too when he watched.

It will be interesting to see how much alike/different my boys will really be?

The main reason why my mom and I ventured up to VT for a couple days was to visit Sharon. Population 1,000ish people. This is where Joseph Smith was born making this a historic site for our church. My mom loves church history, as do I.

This granite shaft was erected in 1905. It was a tuff feat to move such a large piece of granite in that day.

The colors were so vibrant. I couldn't get enough. Each day, more and more leaves fell creating a colorful ground too. I love the reflection of the tree in the left pic.

Most of these pics I took walking through the forrest trails. The following stone wall is most fascinating. It was built over 100 years ago to divide pastures and land plots. Farming was the booming source of income in that day. A lot of the stone structures still remain. Crazy to think about knowing they were pulled by horses and were manmade.

I learned that the further north you drive, the more colorful the leaves get. Vermont was hit hard by Hurricane Irene. As a result, the paper said this was a moderate year in color. It was more color than I ever experience in Utah's seasonal change.

So the pictures I took are horrible. I just snapped from wherever I stood in central park.

Someone in a small plane spelled out in huge letters, "Last Chance." Everyone was looking up in the sky trying to figure out what the plane was writing, one letter at a time. Some people thought it was terrorist related. It was later confirmed to be a form of art, "sky writing" art. We could be on to something...

I got impatient and didn't stick around for the rest of the 'E' to be done. Wanted to complete our walk where trees would be blocking.

Central Park...

There are a lot of little parks speckled throughout NYC. But then there's THE park, I'll refer to as CP. I read that CP is almost 850 acres worth. That's a huge chunk of this island.

There is something for everyone in CP. You can escape everyone and everything for complete and utter peace and tranquility. On the flip, there is entertainment of all kinds. You can revert back to your childhood--roller skating to 80's and 90's music. You can protest. Walk/run endlessly. People watch. Rent bikes. Row a boat. Occupy a gazebo. Eat at a cutsie cafe. Picnic with a groupie. Play sports in various leagues. Observe happy playgrounds. Go to free concerts. The list doesn't end...

I love this park. I can spends hours and days here. In fact, I do.

This is Sheep Meadow, 15 acres of luscious grass. Reminds me of a pasture. I think it was in the late 1800's. This does a lot for my sanity in NYC. On a cloudy and cold day (above), there is no one. On a sunny Saturday, there are thousands. Please don't miss the random guy doing yoga below.

There are (I don't know how many but a lot) statues in the park. Some more famous than others.

I have no idea what the one is below. But he got fresh flowers on this particular day.

We went to the 'imagine' mosaic on John Lennon's 71st b-day. Besides the mob of people, it was great to sing along with those that are obsessed or just a fan like myself. There were some great look-a-likes there too. Here they are all hovering the mosaic I posted a pic of here. This mosaic is at the entry point to the park right next to where JL lived and was shot. Yoko still lives in the original apartment.

Classic skating in the park. Such a riot. The music will reel you in from every direction if you weren't already attending the fun. Those wishing to dance who are without skates can do so in the middle of all the skating. All ages welcome, however, it's mostly my mom's generation doing their thing.

I'll never tire from a carriage ride. I get that from my mom. We take a carriage ride every time we are in New Orleans it seems. Nothing better than seeing the sites with the click-clank of horses hooves on the pavement.

I'm fascinated with this building. From most every spot in central park, you can pick it out. When I rented a bike, I loved riding around and viewing it from various angels. I was surprised to hear it was built during the depression. Of course it's tenants include recognizable names such a Steve Martin, Demi Moore, Celine Dion, Bono (bought from Steve Jobs), Tiger Woods, and I can't remember the others. I got my info when I sat on a bench in the park where all the carriage rides pass. Every tour guide has plenty to say about it it seemed.

Dog-walker...

So we found out two weeks after Andrew started his job that we were expecting (still makes me smile every time I say it). With a new move, naturally everyone is so quick to ask what I would be doing. I had every intention of going back to work. But once I found out I was pregnant, I wanted to do something more flexible, chill, and temporary. And the great thing about NYC is you can really do anything. It's not all corporate. There is something for everyone. I thought walking dogs for a majority of the day was perfecto. You should of seen people's faces when I told them I wanted to be a dog-walker. Great cash job, okay.

I've seen as many as 8 dogs walked at once by a single dog walker. Amazing.

So then at 8 weeks when I went in for my first appointment, I found out I was having twins. I'm not the highest risk but I am higher risk than many scenarios. So no dog walking dreams coming true here. I resolve to a few activities a day.

I rented a bike in central park the other day and rode around for a bit. I had to snap a pic when I walked up on this cute doggy date. Or doggy play group should I say.

Brooklyn Bridge...

This is a walk that will never get old. I remember when Andrew and I walked it for the first time at twilight when we stayed a night in the financial district our first summer being married.

We ventured out to do the walk with my mom last Saturday. It was packed with people. And part of the bridge has scaffolding on it limiting the view. Nevertheless, the brooklyn bridge...

This is my a few days shy of 18 weeks pregnant. It's flying by!

I have been fortunate enough to spend some quality time with some of these choice children this last week. I have a new nephew! Meet William. He is as precious as can be. Everything about him is perfect. I'd find myself just staring... Andrew is holding my other nephew Charlie.

There is something about a newborn that is so lovable and squishy. It's hard to hold and not squeeze the little tummy. Will is so content to sleep away until his little heart is content.

And this is Emma Perry Egan. Love her. I think I'm holding her here when she was 3 maybe 4 days old. She fit perfectly in my forearm. Her head would just rest in my palm. I couldn't help but think that I had the whole world in my hands. What an angel.

It's been nice to reconnect with the Egans as they moved from Utah probably 3 years ago. And Amanda is from Mississippi so we connect in a special way.

Roof deck...

Our building is new so some of the amenities have opened since we moved in. Our roof deck is my new favorite. There is nothing that separates us to the Empire State Building. I often make calls up here or we bring dinner up to eat. I'm trying to soak up the fall weather while I can. I wouldn't imagine a foot of snow is near as appealing.

The view of the Hudson at night is my favorite. It's amazing how liberating a sunset can make you feel.

Weekend with the Kjar's...

A dear friend from Mississippi is now living in upstate New York. Recently her family visited and we spent a full day in the park walking around, napping, exploring, and people watching. Jonah, Mari's little one, is simply amazing. Talk about a low maintenance happy kid. My goodness.

Walking through 'the mall' in Central Park--such a beautiful grove of trees. Living in Midtown sometimes I forget what fresh air smells like. I was pleasantly reminded here.

And on the right, meet Gary. He takes personal ownership in the John Lenon memorial in Central Park. It is located closely to the corner where John L. was shot. His wife Yoko still lives in the apartment right above where it happened. Gary is full on informaiton. Every day he makes a different peace sign design with roses. He is full of information. Fascinating man to talk to. I look forward to having more visits with the guy. I'm always fascinated by people whose life is driven by a specific passion.

This little guy is a-d-o-r-e-a-b-l-e!

So Jonah slept in a crib not far from us all. Technically he was in the kitchen but since we have a studio it's all one, right? Well not only did he go to bed while we were all talking, but he slept a good hour beyond when we woke up. We were just sitting around catching up (the guys went to play football) and a good hour after he woke up this was his face. He just played in the pack-n-play. I kept thinking he was about to cry and might want to be held. He's so happy just like his mom and dad. I don't have a ton of experience with toodlers, but I know this is really rare.

It was so relaxin to lay and visit and not feel like we had to run all over and see everything. Josh is in the background sleeping.

Birthday dinner...

Every bday is special, but I wasn't expecting much this year with the recent move.

My old roommate, Whitney, got together a special dinner at Sarabeths.

Dinner was delicious.

And the cake was amazing! I wasn't expecting all the layers. It screams time consuming. Very thoughtful of Whitney and Erica to make this for me. I think Erica said the banner triangles were cut out of a restoration hardware magazine and taped to floss.

Ground Zero & 9/11

With the bomb threats prior to 9.11, I was a little freaked out. It wasn't until later that evening that I ventured out to that area. I'm glad I did. We all remember where we were 10 years prior. It's hard to believe that much time has passed. It's such a fresh memory, and I'm sure for many families, a somewhat fresh wound.

I have so much respect and admiration for the variety of first time responders that didn't shy away from the tragedy. I can't walk past a fire station in the city without noticing a plaque for honorable firefighters who lost lives in that particular company. Fire stations in NYC are so iconic. As of 10 years, I have a hard time believing they go unnoticed.

The new Freedom Tower has a long ways to go. It was neat to see it lite up in red, white, and blue.

White ribbons were tied all around St. Paul's fence. Messages were written on the ribbon in honor of the victims. The red stump was found following 9.11. Although the huge tree fell, the tomb stones outside St. Paul's as well as the church were unharmed. Someone thought to preserve the stump in the original shape of how it was found. Beautiful.

The banner below listed the victims names. Loved ones circled their name and wrote personalized messages.

The pic on the left is the view of the empire state building from outside our building. Wish I would have thought to carry my actual camera with me this outing. Loved the patriotic colors all around the city on such a special day.

US Open 2011...

Andrew wanted to get US Open tix for my bday. But with the two day rain delay, it was very tricky. The venue wouldn't give any refunds to anyone's tickets. So at best you could try to exchange your ticket for another day. But for the most part you were just reallocated for another day. We ended up seeing the men's quarterfinals which was awesome. It ended up being an afternoon session when it was originally 3 days prior at night. So as you can see the stadium is somewhat empty. Although, it was 'sold out' due to the reallocated tickets. How we got tickets...

Deb drove an hour from CT to the stadium, and I took the subway to Queens. It wasn't until we got to the stadium that we realized we didn't actually have tickets. For what ever reason, the card was actually never charged and/or we had no confirmation. We weren't going to get anywhere with it either as there were thousands waiting outside the stadium trying to use their prior tickets that were on a day which rained out. We weren't that upset, just a little bummed that we were just going to turn around and drive home.

Long story short, a family contact who was an old work friend, came and plucked us out of the line and gave us two extra tickets. Free! & we were placed in Andy Roddick's guest suite. It was a hot day so it was very nice to step into the AC at times too and drink ample diet cokes. Yes, I've turned over a new leaf to ample diet cokes.

When my brother was 14 (now 28) he actually played against Isner in a regional USTA tennis tourni.

Michelle Obama was sitting close by. She's in the orange. Her two daughter are to the right in the blue and mustard shirt with the holes. Not a great look if you as me. Especially the sports bra/undershirt.

While I'm being critical, the first lady sat there with her legs spread-eagle. On a positive note, her up-due was amazing. Take another look at the mustard shirt. And if you look close enough, you'll see her daughter has on red zebra leggins.

Of course, I rooted for Roddick as an American, but I was pleased with a Nadal win too. I like Nadal a lot. He's not a complainer and has such a competitive way about him; opposite of Djokovic's demeanor and body language on the court that I can't stand.

Classic Nadal... If I was him I'd work on getting a new nervous tick. He does this in between each point without fail.

Roddick's parents were sitting one row in front of us. I was convinced it had to be his parents cause Andy has her eyes and the dad's nose. Google images confirmed it. I was impressed with how even keel they were. Occasionally, the mom would yell come on, big boy. Should I be ashamed I snuck this pic?

Everglade City...

Everglade City is a small town, population <500, that is essentially the gateway to the 10,000 islands that make up the Everglades. They are essentially marsh lands, swamps, and some open waters off the Florida coast. They're about an hour from where my grandparents live so my mom and I went one day before everyone else got in town.

We had quite the experience on our water-boat tour. I've always been very defensive about the stereotype Waterboy gives to the south. I can't tell you how many time I've said that people don't really ride waterboats to school. But after this experience, I think in some areas they do. The school is located right on the water. And some families have their own little island (not even close to as glamorous as it might sound).

When I told the owner of the waterboat company that I was Louisiana, he said the following in the most hick accent and very broken English. "When Katrina happened, I trailered up my waterboats and packed 1,000 gallons of gas. I headed to New Orleans are started freeing people from their homes. They call me a hero there. Here, I'm a felon."

My Nana's beach has many shells too. There is a dense row of shells that linger where high tide hits. I'm partial to the conch's. But I like the swirly ones too.

We're no supposed to take star fish or sand dollars as they are alive. But I actually found a dead sand dollar this time.

Bonita Beach...

As far I'm concerned, this is the best beach in the world. No high rises. Private beach. (Because of the two prior points) Houses are built right up close to the water. Sea Turtles love to nest here too.

My grandparents retired to the beach years ago. I'm convinced it has to be one of their better decisions ever made. My grandmother does her water aerobics in the ocean often. They have optimal weather conditions year round. The kitchen windows just see ocean and my grandpa's office faces out too. Very therapeutic. They spot dolphins daily swimming by. When we're lucky, a manatee will swim up close. They don't have the fin to pick them out from the house though so usually its a surprise visit up close.

I associate the beach with family. And more specifically, my grandparents.

The water was actually pretty choppy with the tropical storm coming up through the Gulf. Usually it is so placid there aren't any waves. Andrew prefers the waves; I prefer none for laying on a raft.

I met my mom, sister, and my nephews at the beach last week. Everyone else opted for the BYU/Ole Miss game. Andrew joined us for the long labor day weekend too. I can't believe my uncle's bday was the last time I was here.

My shirt says faith by the way... a principle I'm particularly passionate about these days.

I had to include the pic below of us all sitting around and eating Sunday dinner. My sweet Nana prepared the most fantastic meal. Hard to explain the moment, but she turned on some sentimental music we all sang along to.

I got to meet my newest nephew, Cyrus Shumway, for the first time too.

He was born 9 pounds 12 ounces/ 23 inches long in late June. He slept 10.5 hours a night in his porta crip. Chill mom. Chill baby. Life's good.

It's been so nice to reconnect with an old friend from college. It's been years. Sara's husband has been playing in the league for probably 5 years now. Sara gets the All-American supportive wife 'I'll move where I have to move" award. & their kids are just the cutest things ever. Sara is amazing to see at work as a mother. Her kids are just the cutest things around.

As inconvenient as the hurricane was, the giants vs. jets game was moved to a Monday which worked out perfectly. So kind of Sara to include us in the fun.

I never thought I'd see the likes of it but since we were sitting in the Giants family area, Andrew didn't cheer for the Jets. In fact, I caught him cheering on the Giants some. Andrew is die hard Jets fan, people.

Andrew had the perfect app for Cooper who is showing off the phone in the pic on the left.

Such a treat to be together. I got to know Sara's husband, Todd, a bit better during our walk around the city. I'm so happy for these two.

I walked up on my first yarn bomb the other day in Brooklyn. I far prefer this look over graffiti. It's hard to believe many compare the two. I think this is great! Wish I could have seen the bull.

Union Square...

We walked up on the greatest market in Union Square one weekend. It's neat to see the local farmers set up shop and strut their stuff. I think one vendor said there was about 90 different booths in the summer. It's year round though on seasonal item. Organic and free of pesticides if you can appreciate that goodness. They seemed to have comparable prices to a grocery if not better. Either way, a better experience than fresh direct.

Andrew polishing up his chess skills. Had to be the quickest chess game I've ever seen--about 4 minutes. The guy on the right plays all day every day in exchange for a donation of course.

Weekend Visitors...

Andrew was super pleased with a Yankee game invite from Dave a couple weekends ago. Dave and his cousin Mark, who married a girl I played bball with, ended up staying the night so they didn't have to train back and forth from Connecticut the following day. Saturday we enjoyed a leisure walk around the park. It's such a great park but so different from Hyde Park. There's a lot more going on in CP. Makes for an entertaining walk around.

This has to be one of the neater bike carriers I've seen.

I didn't have any expectations prior to How to Succeed in Business. I absolutely loved it though. It was hilarious and clean with some really catchy tunes. People were going nuts over the Harry Potter guy. I thought he did great. I can't believe how short he is. I wonder when they picked him for the HP part if they knew how short he would be as an adult. Can you imagine if he was the little boy he was starting out with HP who later grew to be 6'2? I hardly recognized him without his glasses and now with a combover... handsome (little) lad.

This is the view from our new studio. As busy and exciting as the city is, I feel like we kind of escape it when we get home. It's nice to be able to see as far as the eyes can see. We face towards the financial district so we can see the Statue of Liberty in the distance too.

We traded in a bit of space for comfortable building amenities (gym, pool, yoga!). We're right in the thick of things here in Midtown. Andrew only has a few stops on the subway for work. And we're a block from Penn Station that can virtually get us anywhere without a transfer. The Empire State Building is one block up and over, which means we're inundated with tourists. I'm still a tourist though so that doesn't really bother me. The guys on the corner recruiting people for the E.S.B. try me every day. I think I'll finally feel like a resident when they pass me up as a local. I'll have to start acting like I know where I'm going though. I'm still trying to get my bearings. When our year lease is up, we'll be anxious to breathe a bit more maybe closer to the water or park. But this is perfect for us wanting to figure this city out. It's amazing how little space you can live on.

Andrew finally admitted he loves the lockers. They help store so much and, quite personally, I think they make our place.

I jumped on the Oprah bandwagon years ago. But she lost my likings with time. However every so often she had a treasure to follow. Shortly before her show ended, she got an exclusive interview with RL and his wife on and of their ranch. It was more than the eye could see or appreciate at that. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

You've probably already seen these, but I thought they were hilarious so I wanted to repost and add my two-bits. I think there were some color corrections made on the animated pics to make it more perfectly match.

Concerning the cousin's hats... I actually loved them. I wonder if the sisters knew they were sitting right behind the queen? Every time the camera man showed the queen sitting at the wedding you could see the fro hats sticking every which direction behind her. My observation, which isn't worth much, is that the cousins did it somewhat as a spoof or dagger because their mother, she who was the last to walk down that isle, was not invited to the wedding. So she's divorced out of the royal family. She still was at one time apart and has children that are first cousins. I felt bad for her.

Andrew's cousin Kadee had her wedding in SV this year. It was so beautiful and so much fun as the band played for 3 hours. I don't think I've ever been to a wedding where the bride paid such close attention to all the finishing details. It added so much and did not go unnoticed.

Sun Valley...

Sun Valley Resort celebrated its 75th season this year. Andrew's grandparents honeymooned here almost 60 years ago. And since has returned with family every year since. With kids/grandkids/spouses there are now 73 people I believe. This year, 72 managed to make it (one on a mission). Andrew's most fond memories of family all connect back to this happy place. It's a treat to go and soak up family and fun.

With Andrew recently taking a new job, we could only make it for the last two days of the week. But after missing last year (London), no showing was not an option.

Such a treat to see my Aunt Caroline who lives in Sun Valley. We travel from all over to vaca and relax in this paradise. & she gets to live here. It's so great eating out together as she seems to know all the locals. It's only been a couple months since her wedding.

The Kneadery is the last place we eat before we go home. So delicious and oh so filling.

There are yellow ribbons tied on all the posts of the pastures and at various parts in town. They are in honor of Bowe Berghahl who is from SV and is the only solider right now that is a prisoner of war being held in Pakistan. He wandered off the base and was taken by the Taliban a few years ago. They have released a handful of videos of him showing he is alive but holding him hostage in return for money and soldiers at Guantanamo Bay. So sad.

SV is full of beautiful art galleries. Although, I've probably only walked in a few.

Courtney's family was so kind to let me stay the week following the wedding. I had quite the time observing some incredible mom's at work. There's 19 grand kids total and they get along so well.

Sydney and Thomas were born 3 months apart.

Rope swing of all rope swings. It has to be over 50 feet if you fall from the peak. I did it once and couldn't feel my feet for a while. Now that I know better, I let it slow down after a couple swings.

I love her so much.

The Moses basket is such a hit.

I promised my dad I'd always wear a helmet if I rode one of those things.

This day has been in the works for a long time. These two are equally lucky to have each other as both have so many outstanding qualities. I got to know Shannon a bit better when we worked together. And J, is my bf's brother.

My favorite detail of the dinner was the blue Cadbury mini eggs in a petite nest for each place setting. My favorite Easter candy in July--

The band was absolutely amazing.

Court's parents are so much fun. Brent was the first on the floor with no hesitation.

J and Shannon went away in a boat that said "Just tied in the knot!" They actually made it by just tying different ropes together. It was so cute.

When they ran out to the boat, there were huge fireworks going off of the floating dock. Everyone was crowding with sparklers double fisted. And the best thing yet with a wedding run-out... There were about 50 huge lanterns that once lit, floated into the sky--similar to Tangled. Beautiful night. Beautiful couple. Such a treat to be there.
